Tremblant: the resort, with everything that comes with it
If your weekend IS the skiing — runs in the morning, pedestrian village at night — Tremblant is the answer and nothing replaces it. The trade-offs are well known: resort-area lodging premiums (especially holiday weeks), resort fees stacked on top, peak-Saturday traffic on the 117, and a 'chalet' that is often a condo in a development. At roughly 2 h from Ottawa it's also the farthest of the three corridors. Pick it if: alpine skiing is the centre of the weekend and the budget follows.
The Pontiac and Gatineau hills: closest to the city
Wakefield, Val-des-Monts, Lac-des-Loups: 30–60 minutes from Ottawa, this is the spontaneous-getaway corridor, with Gatineau Park's 200 km of cross-country trails as the headliner. The limits: the water is smaller (headwater lakes and rivers), the supply of large 8–10-person chalets is thin, and the gems book fast precisely because all of Ottawa knows them. Pick it if: you're leaving last-minute, as a two- or foursome, and proximity beats the lake.

The Petite-Nation, 1 h 30 from Ottawa via Autoroute 50, is the middle corridor — and the one we know from the inside. What it offers in winter: one of the Outaouais' largest lakes, frozen and silent; alpine skiing at Mont-Blanc (55 min) or Tremblant (1 h) as a day trip; snowmobiling on the regional network; organized ice fishing at Lac de la Ferme (15 min); snow tubing at Montagnes Noires (25 min); and the Montebello Christmas Market in December.
